Marguerite de Navarre (1492-1549) also known as Marageret of Navarre, was the queen of Navarre. She used her political influence to protect the reformers. She corresponded with John Calvin, and Calvin wrote the preface of his Institutes of the Christian religion to her brother King Francois I. Marguerite was a prolific writer. Her great work is the 5 volume Heptameron. She gave birth to a daughter, Jeanne d'Albret who was Queen regent of Navarre and mother of King Henry IV of France.
